General Information
  • The Unit "Electronic Communications" has a new member as from 6th of February: Omar DHAHER is joining the CRID team.
    He comes from the Al-Quds University of Jerusalem in Palestine. He has obtained a Peace grant to realize his PhD in the Louvain School of Management (campus of Namur). The title of his doctoral dissertation is: "Creating a regulatory framework for a competitive ICT market in Palestine" (supervisor: prof. Alexandre de STREEL). Welcome!
  • Yves POULLET has been coopted as member of the Steering Committee of the Belgian Information Security Initiative (BISI).

Intervention of Crid researchers to events as speakers

  • Alexandre de STREEL has participated to “Universal Service in Europe: Current principle and suggestion for Review”, at the Centre for European Policy Studies Task Force: “Regulatory challenges for the Post-Lisbon era”, Brussels, 20 january 2009.
  • The CRID has organised jointly with LSTS (V.U.B.), INRIA and TILT (Université de Tilburg) the International Conference on Computer Privacy and data Protection (CPDP): "Data Protection in profiled world", Brussels, 16 - 17 january 2009. Different CRID membres has participated to this symposium and taken the floor.
    • Antoinette ROUVROY has delivered a paper on "Technology, Virtuality and Utopia" as a contribution to the Reading Panel on Autonomic Computing, Human Identity and Legal Subjectivity - Legal Philosophers meet Philosophers of Technology convened by Mireille HILDEBRANDT and Antoinette ROUVROY. Her paper is available here.
    • Cécile de TERWANGNE has hosted with Franck DUMORTIER the panel " Facebook and other Social Networks".
    • Yves POULLET has hosted the panel "Reform of e-Privacy Regulations in the EU" whereof he spoke about the e-commerce directive.
