General Information
- Since October, 22nd, the CRID is pleased to welcome Luiz COSTA, prosecutor of the Republic of Brazil in the field of new technologies (especially electronic commerce and data protection). The purpose of his visit is to present a thesis project on the protection of privacy and ambient intelligence and register permanently in the doctoral course on this subject. He will stay till January, 28th.
- New contracts:
- The research Unit "liberties in the Information society" got a contract with GSK Biological related to the processing of medical data of its employees in accodance with the Belgian social legislation.
- The research Unit "liberties in the Information society" got a contract with the KCE.
- The research Unit "liberties in the Information society" got a contract, as subcontractor of NSI, with Easi-Wal (Wallonie) on sources authentiques.

- Claire GAYREL participated in the European Parliament LIBE Committee (Civil liberties, Justice, Security) Hearing on "Data Protection in a Transatlantic Perspective, Future EU-US Agreement on Data Protection and police and judicial cooperation in criminal matters" and made a presentation on "Ensuring effective enforcement mechanisms in the future EU-US Agreement", European Parliament, available here, Brussels, 25 october 2010.
- Amélie de FRANCQUEN and Séverine DUSOLLIER presented a contribution on "the Duration of copyright and the public domain" at ABA (Association Belgue du droit d'Auteur), Brussels, 25 October 2010.
- Caroline COLIN gave a presentation on "Inventory of the proposals to solve the P2P problem" in a Workshop organized by SACD in the context of the 25th International French speaking Film Festival, 4 october 2010, Namur (Belgium).
- Robert QUECK delivered a presentation on "The EU Regulatory Framework Applicable to Electronic Communications". This presentation was part of a seminar on "Telecommunications, broadcasting and the internet – Eu competition law & regulation" organised by Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer (Brussels) at the occasion of the official presentation on the book L. GARZANITI & M. O’REGAN (EDS.), Telecommunications, Broadcasting and the Internet - EU Competition Law & Regulation, 3rd. ed., London, Sweet & Maxwell, 2010, ciii + 1100 p. Researchers from CRID and ICRI contributed with several chapters to this book.
- Cristina DOS SANTOS has lead the Working Group on "Privacy Aspects of PSI between Private and Public Law" during the First Joint 'Thematic Seminars' of the European Project LAPSI (Legal Aspects of Public Sector Information) on 7th & 8th October 2010 in Leuven (organised by ICRI/KULeuven & CRID/FUNDP). - Cécile de TERWANGNE presented "Re-use and Privacy/Data Protection".
- Feyrouze OMRANI presented "Privacy Apsects of the INSPIRE Directive in relation with re-use of PSI - The Walloon Region case study" at the First Joint Thematic Seminars of the European Thematic Network LAPSI (Legal Aspects of Public Sector Information), organised by ICRI/KULeuven & CRID/FUNDP, on 7th & 8 October 2010 in Leuven.
- Caroline COLIN attended the Thematic Seminar and has been a panel member of the Workshop dedicated to privacy aspects of public sector information (WG 2), for the LAPSI (Legal Aspects of Public Sector Information) Project, 7 and 8 october 2010, Leuven (Belgium).
- Jean-Marc VAN GYSEGHEM participated in the International Seminar Privacy and Data protection and made a presentation on "Privacy and Data protection in Europe", São Paulo (Brasil), September 30th and October 1st 2010.
- Jean-Marc VAN GYSEGHEM participated, as legal expert at the request of the European Commission, in a project review in the program FET-Open, Istanbul, October 27th 2010.

Research stays abroad of Crid researchers (October 2010)
- Myriam SANOU has been invited as a visiting scholar by the Center for Intellectual Property Policy (CIPP) of McGill University in Montreal from 11 august 2010 to 21 october 2010. During her stay at Mc GILL, she carried a part of her doctoral research on "Internationa public domain". She also made a presentation of her FSR research on "legal access to biobanks".
- Omar DHAHER visited Palestine from September 22 till Octobre 27, 2010. The objective of this research visit is to document stakeholders' views on the telecom regulatory reform in Palestine. The visit consisted of a series of interviews with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications, the incumbent telecom operator (Paltel), the newly licensed 2nd mobile operator (Wataniya Palestine), the newly licensed service providers, ISOC Palestine Chapter, and other interested stakeholders.
